This especially applies on the first tee.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;There you are, with the other members of your foursome watching, anxious to see how much competition they will get from you. Plus the next four are watching wondering how much you are going to hold them up. On top of that you may not have had an opportunity to warm up properly (did you arrive late again?) so you are stiff and tight.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Relax! Don't take things quite so seriously! In this golf lesson are some tips that may make a huge difference for you.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;1) GET GOLF LESSON FOR WARM UP. &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;This is fairly obvious but it is surprising how few golfers do this, but let me assure you a good warm up is vital. As with any sport or physical activity, if you don't warm up first, you are prone to injury. &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Always arrive early enough to give yourself plenty of time to warm up properly. Give your back, neck, shoulders and legs a good stretch, and fling your arms about to loosen up those stiff shoulders. This not only prevents injury, but helps you relax (especially on that first tee) and you can expect a one or two stroke reduction as well.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;2) GET GOLF LESSON FOR BEING FIT &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;If you are not fit, not only will you be taxed walking the course, but your level of concentration will also suffer. Those 'difficult' shots become even more difficult and it is much harder to pull off a good recovery shot.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;You don't need to join a gym or pound the pavements, but some exercise at least three times a week is essential. You also need to eat a good healthy diet majoring on fruit and vegetables and stay away from or limit all fast and convenience food.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;3) GET GOLF LESSON FOR CORRECT EQUIPMENT&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Oh yes, you need the right gear too. Let's start with the clubs. It doesn't matter how expensive the clubs are, they must be suitable for you. The correct length of shaft is vital. Measure your height while wearing your golf shoes. If you are over six foot you need an extra inch above standard and if you are under five foot six inches you need a shaft one inch less than standard. If you bought your clubs second hand, they may not suit you at all.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;You also need to make the right decision between graphite and steel too. Talk to your local pro for advice.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;It goes without saying that clothing and shoes need to be comfortable and not restrictive.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;4) GET GOLF LESSON FOR PRACTICE&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Now that we have ensured you are fit, warmed up and have the right gear, we need to practice. You cannot expect to play good golf if the only time you swing a club is in a game.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Practice helps to build 'muscle memory', and provided you have proper technique instilled in the first place, practice is what makes you a proficient player. They seem to be trying to kill the ball, and this is a major cause of a sliced shot.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Slow down! Focusing on hitting the ball with a square club face is far more important than achieving extra distance. It is better to have the ball on line on the fairway than in the rough or a water hazard.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;6) GET GOLF LESSON FOR THE MENTAL GAME&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Golf is almost more of a mental game than a physical one. When the pressure is on, when you can't seem to forget that horrible shot you just played, when you have just lost your ball, when you have just missed an easy putt, you tend to get uptight. This makes your body stiffen up, and your next shot is even worse.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;I know it is hard to do, but you must learn to keep calm and focused, and put all negative thoughts out of your mind. Also, NEVER lose your temper - NEVER!
